The Polytechnic’s Board of Governors was formally established through the Education Act, (Board of Governors) Kisumu Polytechnic order 2000. It is the fourth National Polytechnic in the Republic of Kenya, after Kenya, Mombasa and Eldoret Polytechnics. The polytechnic is registered under the Education Act Cap 211 Section 15(2) Registration Certificate number MRTTI/PC/293/99.
The administration of the Polytechnic has a governance structure currently comprising of the Board of Governors, the Principal’s Management Council, Departmental Management Team in Academic Departments and the other Auxiliary Service Sections.
The Board of Governors is appointed by the Minister of Higher Education Science and Technology under the Education Act. The Chairman of the Board is appointed by the Minister. The members of the Board are nominated by the strategic stakeholders for appointment by the Minister. The Principal is the Secretary to the Board. The Board manages the Polytechnic through the Executive Committee, which oversees the running of the Institution on a day-to-day basis. The Board is also empowered to establish other committees as, and when, needs arise.
